A Detailed Look At The Fisker Tramonto, A Rare Hand-Built Sports Car

The rare Fisker Tramonto was first released in 2005.

The Fisker company was initially a coach builder with two custom car builds before it became a full-fledged car production company; one of the cars was the Fisker Tramonto.

Only a few people knew that Wanxiang Group had bought most of the company's asset and rename it Karma Automotive. Prior to this was a lawsuit between Hendrik Fisker and Aston Martin, based on the bankruptcy of Fisker’s battery supplier and eventually the ruin of the Fisker Company. FIsker suspended its operation until 2021 when they announced the Fisker Ocean.

The car was named after the company CEO, Henrik Fisker, who designed the Aston Martin DB9 and BMW Z8.

They obviously imitated the Aston-Esque bonnet and the slim BMW Z8 rear lights.

Henrik Fisker and Bernhard Koehler handcrafted the Fisker Tramonto, and this was their first car together. In this car, Fisker chose to retain the engineering approach of the Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG; the airbags, the Active Body Control, and crumple zones, the retractable hardtop feature.

Only 15 examples of this electronic sports car have yet been made. A little different from its predecessor, the Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG, is that it has no bumpers, a tinier back end, a huge power dome, and its hoodline is more protracted.

The Tramonto works with a 610-hp supercharged 5.5- liter V8 engine that can go from 0-60 mph in only 3.6 seconds with a torque of 881.28 nm by 650 ft-lbs. Its High-Performance Brake system comprises 4-link in the front and 5-arm multi-link at the back class-leading suspension, enhanced with an AMG version of Active Body Control (ABC), the car performs powerfully. The world-class power retractable hardtop converts the Tramonto from a coupe to a roadster when the control button is pressed within 16 seconds.

The engine was coupled to a five-speed AMG Speedshift transmission, giving power to the rear wheels. The car rides on 5-spoke wheels that are strong enough to carry the car's weight and are very tolerant of rough and abusive routes.

There are only four gauges on the dashboard: the speedometer and tachometer in the middle, with two other gauges sideways. The center stack display has an infotainment system that contains the car's navigation center on a square screen. There are HVAC controls beneath the display screen.

The seats and dashboard are skillfully, beautifully hand-trimmed, and stitched in luxury Italian leather. The center console is highlighted with milled aluminum, while the switchgear is marked by aluminum details where it meets with leather and forms the Fisker symbol on the gear knob. Fisker originally designed its versatile steering wheel with built-in sound system controls.

It's a very comfortable car, even as a two-seater.

The highly sophisticated Fisker Tramonto spots a grille design that was clearly inspired by the F/A-22 Raptor. From the front, it looks like a sleek jet aircraft, with its large central opening attached to its body and its two wings extending from its mouth.

A closer look at the car shows that the body panel has some firm and consistent gaps. Also, the body panel is made with high-quality carbon fiber and aluminum, with some parts made of steel for firmness and stability. These materials give the car an affluent sports car appearance.

The front grille is designed like the chevy's bowtie symbol with a dividing line at the middle that meets with the Fisher logo on the bonnet. The blinkers and headlights are rectangular and are infused into both sides of the grille. Also, round fog lights are right beneath the grille on both ends.

On the bumper is a minor vent extending to the car's body line.

The slim rear lights extend from the rear end to the quarter panels.

Under the rear bumper are rectangular-shaped tailpipes on both ends of the bumper with a chrome plate placed in their midst. The body panels are perfectly finished and fit closely together with nearly invisible joints, as for the door and trunk lid joints.

One of the benefits of this vehicle is the warranty Mercedes offers, which you can take for fixing at any Mercedes-Benz workshop. Also, Fisker delivers spare parts promptly because it records every car's unique details in case there is an accident.

There is no 100% flawless car. One downside observed upon testing was that the large-sized wheels made the steering wheel vibrate loudly when driving on leveled roads. These faults had to be eliminated to make this car worth its high cost.

Although Fisher is set to produce 150 of this car, only 15 have been built.

Cravers for high-performance sports cars should go for Fisker Tramonto. A carefully crafted vehicle with cool features: 70 mm dual exhaust system with four steel cats, a customized electronic control unit, downpipes, and stainless steel exhaust headers. A new Fisker Tramonto cost about $170,000 at release and was considered great value for its cost.
