nils holger moormann celebrated the 10th anniversary of its "press chair", a stable seat made of an extremely thin aluminum sheet. The idea of ​​using a flat piece of metal to produce a durable chair, the complicated production process, and the iconic design that resulted from it, still inspires inspiration a long time later. Although the road to actually building the chair proved to be quite arduous, it seemed to be worthwhile in the end.

As shared by moormann (learn more here), molding a durable chair from thin aluminum panels was a fascinating idea from the beginning. But as we all know, seemingly simple things are often easier said than done. After countless forming tests, different weld depth experiments, broken pressing tools, torn aluminum plates and multiple rounds of prototype models, the Technical Inspection Association company TÜV Rheinland received the official seal of approval after a 1.5-year development phase.

No rivets, screws, hooks or holes are needed to make a pressed chair-just press the aluminum plate into shape. First, the outline is cut from a thin aluminum sheet of 2.5 mm. In the second step, the circular curvature and dents are pressed into the material at the car chassis manufacturer. Then the legs and backrest are shaped to the correct angle. The outstanding stability and unique appearance of the chair are due to this unique structure. When celebrating the Jubilee, we paid tribute to 11 unconventional custom models, demonstrating the flexible use of this iconic work. Whether it is a ski resort, a skate park or a swimming pool: the suppressed chair always leaves a good impression and is an ideal companion.
