Chinese-owned Halms Hungary will build a more than EUR 40 million electric vehicle parts plant in Debrecen (225 km east of Budapest), Hungary's second-largest city, Deputy Minister Levente Magyar of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said yesterday, according to autopro.hu.

The government will provide about HUF 1.5 bln in support for the investment, which will create 300 jobs, Magyar said. Halms Hungary's owner, one of the world's leading manufacturers of EV parts, decided on Hungary as the site for its first plant outside of China "after long deliberation," he added.

Halms Hungary managing director Matthew Shen said its owner Huashuo offers integrated solutions to makers of cars and EVs, mostly cast in aluminum. Huashuo picked Debrecen for the plant to maintain closer ties with its European business partners, he added.

Automated production lines will operate at the plant, Shen said. Debrecen Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa said Huashuo's investment would make it the third Chinese firm in the industrial park on the city's southern edge.
