Especially during a pandemic, it is essential to communicate with the digital industry through different channels. In April 2021, the LinkedIn community discussed the benefits of a vacuum in HPDC. Most survey participants agreed that the most important feature of HPDC vacuum is to improve the quality of parts. But there are more benefits worth discussing.

"Why use vacuum in HPDC?" Julien Bobst, regional sales manager at Fondarex SA, recently posed this question to the LinkedIn community. The non-representative survey attracted 34 participants, 47% of whom chose the answer option "Improve Part Quality". Other options include "solving cavity filling problems" (32%), "for structural and safety components" (12%), and "surface aspects and treatments" (9%).

But how does the vacuum in HPDC achieve these aspects? We asked Julien Bobst in more detail:

Generally speaking, the best way to improve the quality of parts is to remove pores. In this case, the result is much better! The scrap rate of HPDCM is decreasing and more quality parts are being produced.

The cavity filling problem is solved by removing the air trapped in the mold with complex geometry. Filling during the vacuum injection process will be easier, you can reduce the specific pressure of HPDCM to fill the cavity. Due to this modification of the process, the life of the mold will also increase.

Without vacuum technology, it is impossible to produce structural parts. The technical aspect must be reached. The complexity of the design (geometric shape), the thickness requirements, and the mechanical properties to be achieved are all very high. Safety components must also meet high quality standards.

Robert Knorre, Managing Director of DruckGussBeratung, explained how to actually define the structural components of automotive applications and how to realize their physical properties.

Vacuum technology is better for surface quality or surface treatment parts. By reducing the pores on the surface, the part is more resistant to any further processing and the appearance is improved.
